Royal Bank of Scotland pet insurance policy includes generous cover, renewable benefits and complimentary treatment. There is a useful guide to the types of benefits available below.
The claim limit for each insurance option is subject to excesses, which are the amounts you have to pay for each claim.
- For pets ages seven or older, you must pay the excess shown on your policy plus 20% of every claim for each separate condition
- For holiday cancellation, there is £100 excess to pay upfront before a payout
- For third party liability, dog owners must pay £250 upfront before receiving a payout.

Your benefits for pet insurance cover levels
Advertising or Reward
If your pet goes missing or is stolen, RBS will cover up to £1,55 towards local advertising costs and an additional £500 for reward.
Death Due to Accident or Illness
RBS will cover the purchase price of your pet, should they die as a result of an accident or illness, up to £1,500.
Boarding Kennel Fees
If you require a stay in hospital for more than 4 consecutive days, RBS will cover boarding and kennel fees up to £1,000, depending on your level of cover.
If your dog causes an accident, damages property or severely injures someone, RBS will provide up to £2 million towards legal costs.
If you need to cancel your holiday due to your pet falling ill or needing life saving surgery, RBS will provide up to £5,000 for expenses that you cannot get back from anywhere else.
Overseas Travel Cover
RBS provide overseas travel for journeys to countries included in the governments Pet Travel Scheme. In addition to cover extension, RBS also provides cover for quarantine costs up to £2,000, loss of pet passport up to £250 and emergency expenses abroad up to £500 per journey.

Does RBS cover pre-existing conditions?
RBS does not provide cover for conditions, illnesses or injuries diagnosed before the policy start date or during the 14 day wait period. Any condition, illness or injury diagnosed after that period of time will be covered by the policy.
How long does it take to assess a claim?
While RBS does not provide a time limit with assessing claims, their UK based team aim to handle pet insurance claims quickly and fairly.
