Your benefits for travel insurance cover levels

Medical Expenses

If you suffer an accident or injury whilst travelling abroad, Direct Line will cover the cost of your medical expenses up to £10,000,000. This also includes up to £2,000 for a friend or partner to travel and stay with you while you undergo treatment and up to £2,500 for funeral expenses.

Airline Goes Bust

If your Airline goes bust before or after you’ve travelled abroad, Direct Line will cover the cost of your flights, accommodation and excursions up to a set amount detailed in your policy.

Disaster Cover

If you’re unable to stay at your pre booked and prepaid accommodation due to natural disasters or medical epidemic or pandemic, Direct Line will pay the necessary extra travel and accommodation expenses to allow you to continue with your trip.

Missed or Delayed Departure

Direct Line will provide up to £200 per person if your departure is delayed. If you miss your departure, they will provide up to £600 for additional accommodation and transportation.

What Type Of Policies Do Direct Line Offer?

Direct Line currently offer three policies, Annual, Single and Discoverer Trip cover. Discoverer Trip is designed for backpackers, gap years and world trips lasting 3 – 18 months.

What countries are not covered by Direct Line?


Direct Line will not provide cover for countries or areas which the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all travel to. This also includes areas with ‘advised against all but essential travel’. To check your destination’s FCO advice, visit



Does Direct Line Cover Pre-Existing Conditions?

Yes. Direct Line does provide cover for medical conditions. You will need to declare these to Direct Line before you purchase a travel insurance policy. For more information, visit
