Awesome

Nobody wants to use their pet insurance, sadly I had too and I have nothing but praise for LV, quick payout, sympathetic ear to listen to my problem when it came to my dog! Worth the money I spent…

Other things to consider

Changes to your premium

There are several factors that will affect the cost of your insurance premium when you first take out your pet insurance policy. These include:

  • Tick Icon

Age: younger pets typically have lower premiums.

  • Tick Icon

Breed: certain breeds are more prone to specific health conditions, which can affect the cost.

  • Tick Icon

Location: vet costs can vary by region.

  • Tick Icon

Changes in legislation: insurance companies have no say on how much tax is charged on each policy.

Your limit will be reinstated each year, as long as you renew your policy and there’s no break in cover. LV may choose not to renew a policy, if they do, they will let you know in advance of your renewal date.

Understanding insurance excess

The policy excess is the amount the policyholder must pay towards the cost of veterinary treatment for each condition claimed.

All policies include a compulsory £75 excess.

For lifetime policies, the excess applies to each condition and renews each year.

For time-limited policies, the excess applies once per condition.

Policyholders can also opt for an additional voluntary excess of £75 or £125, which would be added to the compulsory £75 excess.

For Lifetime policies, at renewal after a dog’s 8th birthday or a cat’s 10th birthday, an additional percentage excess is applied. This amounts to 20% of the remaining cost of veterinary treatment after the compulsory and any voluntary excess have been deducted.

Contact LV

If you want to speak to a member of the LV team, you can contact them via their UK-based contact centre. They are open Monday to Friday 8 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 2 pm.

FAQs

  • What types of policies does LV offer?

LV offers five types of insurance policies, with annual vet fee cover ranging from £1,500 to £10,000. These policies are available for both cats and dogs.

  • Does LV cover pre-existing conditions?

No, LV does not provide cover for pre-existing conditions.

  • Do I need to pay an excess when I make a claim?

Yes, you will need to pay a fixed excess when you make a claim for vet fees.

  • Will LV stop insuring my pets when they get to a certain age?

No, once your pet is insured with LV, they won't stop cover just because your pet has reached a certain age. However, cover under the 'death from illness' section stops at the renewal following your dog's 9th birthday or your cat's 11th birthday.

  • Are dental fees covered?

Yes, dental pet insurance is covered and each type of policy offers different levels of cover. LV’s Lifetime policies cover dental treatment for your pet as long they’ve had an annual dental examination and any treatment recommended is carried out within 6 months.

LV’s Time Limited policies only cover treatment for dental or gum problems which are caused by an accidental injury. The only exception to this is that they’ll cover the cost to remove the first milk teeth when your pet is 6 months or older providing he/she was under 16 weeks old when the cover started.

None of LV’s policies cover scaling and polishing of the teeth or any other routine or preventative dental treatments.

  • Are vaccinations included?

Vaccinations are not covered by LV pet insurance, as they are considered routine costs rather than unexpected expenses.

  • What happens after I make a claim?

Once you make a claim, LV begins processing it straight away. LV can pay your vet directly if they’re happy to accept direct payments and will notify you once the payment has been made.
