Animal Friends provides four different cover options for cats and dogs and one standard cover option for horses. Each policy covers veterinary fees and offers competitive benefits. Each benefit option is provided below.
The claim limit for each insurance option is subject to excesses, which are the amounts you have to pay for each claim. Excess is £99 throughout all levels of cover for cats and dogs. Policies for horses require £250 or £500 excess.

Your benefits for pet insurance cover levels
If your dog attacks another animal or causes an accident, Animal Friends will cover the cost of the claim from £1,000,000 to £2,000,000.
This covers cost associated with you having to transport your pet to another vets practice or referral centre. Animal Friends’ Lifetime policy will cover your emergency transport costs up to £200
Animal Friends will provide cover, for the event of you having to take time off work as a result of you being injured by your pet, up to £200.
If your pet causes damage to a third party, Animal Friends will pay up to £750
Theft Or Straying
If your pet is stolen or strays, Animal Friends will pay the purchase price of your pet up to the maximum benefit limit. Cover ranges from £350 to £1,500 depending on the level of your policy.
Advertising and Reward
If your pet is lost or stolen, Animal Friends will pay for local advertising and offer a reward. Cover is up to £200 on Time Limited and Max Benefit policies, and up to £1,000 on Lifetime policies.
If your holiday is cancelled due to your pet needing life-saving surging following an accident or illness within 14 days of your holiday, Animal Friends will cover the cost, up to £1,000 – £1,500 on Time Limited and Max Benefit policies, and £1,000 – £2,500 on Lifetime Policies.
If your pet needs to stay in kennels or cattery while you spend more than 4 consecutive days in hospital, Animal Friends will cover boarding fees between £100 to £1,500 depending on your policy and level of coverage.
Death Of Pet
If your pet dies as a result of an accident or illness (aged 8 or older), Animal friends will cover the amount you initially paid for your pet, ranging from £350 to £1,500 depending on your level of coverage.
Overseas Travel Cover
Animal Friends will provide cover for emergency vet treatment abroad, ranging from £500 to £2,000 depending on your policy.
What animals can I insure with Animal Friends?
Animal Friends currently provide cover for dogs, cats, horses, ponies, donkeys and horse riders. Some exclusions may apply based on your pet’s breed, lifestyle and behaviour so make sure to check for general exclusions and the excluded breeds list. Be aware that Animal Friends will not cover mixed breeds that are known to be a cross of any excluded breeds.
What types of policies do Animal Friends offer for dogs and cats?
Animal Friends offer four different policy types for cats and dogs, including Accident Only, to cover accidents, Time Limited, Max Benefit and Lifetime policies, which cover both accidents, illnesses and a variety of other benefits.
What types of policies do Animal Friends have for horses and riders?
Animal Friends offer a Standard policy for horses, ponies and donkeys aged between 30 days and 20 years. The Standard policy also comes with a range of optional policy extras such as damage/loss/theft of saddlery and tack. If the animal is over 20, they will need to take out a Mature policy.
Owners who regularly ride their horse can choose to add personal injury cover to the policy. For regular riders who don’t own or load a horse, Animal Friends provides a Young Rider policy for riders aged from 5 to 17 years old. For those over 18, Animal Friends offers two policies, Standard and Super Rider, which covers personal injury for riding a horse that doesn’t belong to them.
Does Animal Friends cover pre-existing conditions?
Animal Friends offer insurance coverage for pet who have previously suffered an illness or injury. However, any injury, illness or condition diagnosed before the policy was taken out, will not be covered and will be excluded from your terms of cover as a pre-existing condition.
How long does it take to assess a claim?
Animal Friends aim to process claims within 5-7 working days, providing the appropriate claim form is completed with all of the relevant information by you and your vet. Some claims may take longer during period of unusually high claim volume.
